A Mechanistic Model for Mud Flocculation in Freshwater Rivers

نویسندگان

چکیده

The transport and deposition of mud in rivers are key processes fluvial geomorphology biogeochemical cycles. Recent work indicates that flocculation might regulate by increasing settling velocities, but we lack a calibrated mechanistic model for freshwater rivers. Here, developed semi-empirical floc diameter velocity We compiled global dataset river suspended sediment concentration-depth profiles inverted them situ using the Rouse-Vanoni equation. On average, clay silt (diameters < 39 μm) flocculated with 1.8 mm s-1 130 μm. Among variables, Kolmogorov microscale has strongest positive correlation diameter, supporting idea turbulent shear limits size. Sediment Al/Si (a mineralogy proxy) negative velocity, indicating importance abundance composition flocculation. Floc increases greater organic matter concentrations, consistent driven particle collisions binding which is often concentrated mud. Relative charge density salinity correlates smaller finding reflect primary size distribution physical hosting matter. explains data within factor about two. Results highlight can impact fate particulate carbon, holding implications

A report of biodiversity and abundance of freshwater mollusks in eastern rivers of Tehran Province

Molluscs are among the most important group of faunistic diversity in aquatic habitats. In this paper, abundance, species diversity and some of the morphological traits such as body length and whorl numbers of the mollusks found in three rivers, Hablehrood, Jajrood and Lar in east Tehran, through three seasons of autumn, spring and summer were studied. Totally five species in three families wer...

investigating the feasibility of a proposed model for geometric design of deployable arch structures

deployable scissor type structures are composed of the so-called scissor-like elements (sles), which are connected to each other at an intermediate point through a pivotal connection and allow them to be folded into a compact bundle for storage or transport. several sles are connected to each other in order to form units with regular polygonal plan views. the sides and radii of the polygons are...
